Built to thrill the senses, this limited production hypercar redefines what an EV can be.
At first glance, the specs for the Rimac Nevera R seem like they’ve either been made up or someone made a few typos: 2,107 hp, 0-100 km/h in 1.81 seconds, and a quarter mile time of 8.23 seconds. Rest assured, however, these numbers are correct.
Designed and built by the Rimac Group, based in Croatia, the Nevera R is a limited edition electric hypercar. Only 40 units will be made for the global market, each starting at a price of €2.3 million (roughly CDN $3.5 million), and no, that’s not a typo either.
Key features
The Nevera R runs on a 108kWh Rimac battery pack, features a new torque vectoring system, wears Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and is equipped with carbon ceramic brakes.
“The new generation Rimac All-Wheel Torque Vectoring system has been re-tuned for the Nevera R to maximize the potential of the high-performance tires, while increased downforce provides greater stability and cornering performance,” explains Miroslav Zrnčević, Bugatti Rimac Test and Development Driver. “The new performance-focused battery developed for Nevera R is key to a lot of the powertrain developments here. It’s smaller in capacity (108kWh vs. 120kWh in the original Nevera) but the cells are more efficient, which allows us to draw more power from them, as well as reduce the weight without significantly affecting overall range.”
Nevera DNA
According to Zrnčević, the Nevera R is more than just an electric hypercar. “Nevera R is a testament to what Rimac stands for: Radical, Rebellious, Relentless,” he says.
The Nevera R builds on the success of the original Nevera. According to Mate Rimac, CEO of the Rimac Group, the original Nevera was designed to be a grand tourer. “We made sure it was spacious, comfortable and finely balanced between thrilling and accessible,” he says. “But we’re relentlessly tweaking to customers’ desires, and many were looking for a car that really emphasized the Nevera’s cornering ability, using all the advanced technology on board. We responded with the Nevera R: all the DNA of the record-breaking Nevera, but lighter, faster and more focused.”
The R can be as mild or as wild as the driver would like it to be. “With 2,107 horsepower at your disposal, the Nevera R delivers unmatched control across all driving modes,” Zrnčević says. “In Range, Cruise, and Sport modes, the car provides a safe, well-balanced experience. However, in Track mode the Nevera R truly comes alive, allowing drivers to explore the car’s full potential. For those seeking even more freedom and thrill, Drift mode, combined with the high-grip tires, offers fast, smoke-filled fun at the edge of control.”
Zrnčević says that engineering a car with this much power, and with such a broad range of capabilities, wasn’t easy. “Reaching the limits of what the tire and aero setup can provide, while staying within homologation requirements, is no easy task,” he explains.
Target market
While the $3.5 million price tag mentioned above will get you into a fully-loaded Nevera R, Rimac is happy to cater to each buyer’s needs. “We can tailor almost every part of the Nevera design, from bespoke stitching to complex liveries,” Zrnčević adds, “[but] that will cost extra.”
Clearly, the market for a vehicle in this price range is limited. Zrnčević says that their typical customer loves driving, loves the latest technologies, and is someone who sees the future and understands “the transformative shift happening in the automotive world.”
“They are trailblazers, looking to push the limits of what’s possible, and they appreciate being part of something bigger—Rimac’s journey as a pioneer in the industry,” he adds. “These buyers value the personal experience of visiting our factory and becoming a part of the Rimac story with which they often resonate. Choosing the Nevera or Nevera R is about more than just owning a high-performance car. It’s about aligning with a brand that represents the radical shift.”
The typical buyer, according to Zrnčević, likely already owns a number of exotic vehicles. “Many of our clients typically own a collection of high-performance vehicles that includes models from renowned brands such as Bugatti, Pagani, Koenigsegg, as well as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and others,” he says. “These customers are interested in innovation and engineering excellence, and the Nevera stands out as a combination of radical technology and performance within such a special lineup.”
Zrnčević wouldn’t say if any of the 40 units destined for the global marked have already been sold here in Canada, but he did admit that this limited production model hasn’t sold out just yet.
“Production slots are available for Nevera R MY25,” he says. “Examples of Nevera have previously been delivered to customers in Canada, through our exclusive dealer partner for the Canadian market, Grand Touring Automotive.”
