2026 Corvette ZR1X – 1,250 Horsepower, No Apologies

The ZR1X blends a twin-turbo V8 with cutting-edge electrification to deliver hypercar performance, next-level engineering, and unmistakable Corvette soul.
When you consider the numbers that define the 2026 Corvette ZR1X, they seem almost too fantastic to be true: 1,250 total horsepower, a zero-60 mph time under 2 seconds, quarter-mile under 9 seconds, and a starting price just over $316,000.
As incredible as the ZR1X may appear on paper, according to a GM spokesperson, the ZR1X was engineered to adhere to one of Corvette’s key tenets: to make world-beating performance more accessible.
“This was an opportunity to make the most advanced Corvette ever—combining a bespoke, clean-sheet twin-turbo V8 with an electric propulsion system that was engineered specifically for performance, creating an electrified all-wheel-drive Corvette that delivers hypercar performance,” a GM spokesperson told Autosphere Mag in a recent interview.
GM has been working on the design of the ZR1X since the development of the eighth-generation Corvette (which debuted in 2019) began. The team prides itself on, “making the ZR1X feel as powerful, natural and responsive as it is—making a vehicle that is fun to drive,” GM told us.
“This requires a great deal of development on roads and tracks across the world, ensuring the propulsion systems work well together, the adjustable magnetic ride suspension is well-suited for any situation, and the new 10-piston front and 6-piston rear carbon ceramic brakes are up to the task of reigning in 1,250 hp with confidence,” GM added.
Impressive features
There is a lot to love about the ZR1X: the attention-grabbing design, the incredible horsepower numbers, the electrified powertrain, and the whiplash-inducing acceleration—to name but a few of its impressive features.
According to GM, “the most impressive feature of the Corvette ZR1X is its unprecedented performance capability. It delivers a combined 1,250 hp from the LT7 engine and its electric front drive unit, making it the most powerful production Corvette ever.”
The 5.5L V8 makes 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. In addition, an electric motor (on the front axle) makes 186 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque on demand. There is no physical connection between the two power sources.
“The ZR1X showcases the highest level of Corvette engineering with its hybrid powertrain, advanced aerodynamics and trackfocused chassis tuning, all while remaining intuitive and accessible to drive,” GM told us.
This new hypercar borrows from the engineering that debuted in 2024 in the E-Ray, which was the first-ever AWD Corvette. That said, GM is quick to point out that the eAWD chassis controls system designed for the E-Ray has been significantly upgraded for the ZR1X.
Target market
Very few people can afford a car with a starting price over $316,000, which begs the question, “What’s the target market?” According to GM, top on their list of prospects are Corvette enthusiasts.

“ZR1X customers represent the very top tier of Corvette enthusiasm,” GM told us. “Many are longtime Corvette owners with deep product knowledge and a strong connection to the brand. They have a performance-driven mindset and are looking for the most advanced and capable Corvette ever built.”
GM notes that the customer base includes, “seasoned enthusiasts, collectors and professionals who value engineering excellence, track performance and exclusivity. Interest also extends to younger buyers entering the high-performance space who want a vehicle that pairs hybrid technology with extreme capability. While the profile varies, ZR1X customers share an appreciation for precision performance and the heritage behind the Corvette name.”
According to GM, the company is seeing a strong interest in the ZR1X. “Early feedback has been highly positive. Enthusiasts and existing Corvette owners have responded strongly to the Nürburgring development content, which offered an inside look at how the ZR1X was engineered,” GM told us.
Moreover, according to GM, there’s a lot of excitement about the return of the Corvette Engine Build Program for Canadian customers. “Starting with the 2026 model year, Z06 and ZR1/ZR1X owners will be able to participate in the assembly of their own engine at the Performance Build Center in Kentucky, guided by a master technician. It is one of the most unique ownership experiences in the performance space.”
Marketing and promotion
GM has engaged in a multi-pronged approach to their marketing efforts as they promote the ZR1X. “GM supports awareness through owned channels including Chevrolet.ca, social media, and public showings at major auto shows and events,” GM told us. “We have also shared Nurburgring development content that highlights the engineering behind the vehicle, which gives enthusiasts a behind-the-scenes look at its performance character. These efforts focus on providing transparent, technical, and authentic performance storytelling for a very informed audience.”
The ZR1X will be available in both coupe or hardtop convertible body styles, and it features a new redesigned interior with a three-screen layout, a new console design, real-time vehicle data available via the built-in Performance App, as well as new colours.
The driver-centric cockpit features a 12.7-inch centre console display, a 14-inch driver information centre, and a 6.6-inch touchscreen auxiliary display, located to the left of the steering wheel.

Die-hard performance enthusiasts are sure to appreciate the available Performance Data Recorder, which offers real-time data analysis and the ability to record high-definition video of every driving session. Drivers can analyze their performance, “and make data-driven adjustments for optimal results based on speed trace analysis, side by side video playback, and automated ‘speed tips’ based on their driving data through the centre console display.”
Ultimately, the 2026 Corvette ZR1X isn’t just about jaw-dropping numbers or headline-grabbing technology—it’s a statement of intent. By blending electrified all-wheel drive, a powerful twin-turbo V8, and decades of hard-earned performance know-how, GM has created a machine that comfortably plays in hypercar territory while still carrying the Corvette ethos of usability and driver engagement.
For a select group of enthusiasts, the ZR1X represents the pinnacle of what the Corvette name can be in the modern era: brutally fast, deeply engineered, and unmistakably American.
