A recent report from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants indicates the impact of the microchip shortage in light truck delivery in the first quarter of 2022.
In fact, Ford’s F-Family pickup trucks, Canada’s best-seller in this category for 56 years and all-category champion since 2009, saw a 39.8% decline in the quarter while its RAM rivals fell 14.8%.
Only two models in the top ten best-selling light truck category saw an increase in shipments during this period with the Jeep Wrangler (+47%) and Nissan Qashqai (+73.3%).
The first three months of 2022 show more positive results on the passenger car side. The Honda Civic maintains its top position with a 25.9% increase in deliveries, while the Hyundai Elantra slips into second place ahead of the Toyota Corolla, which saw its deliveries fall by 33.9%.
We note a significant increase in sales for the Kia Soul, with a jump of 81.2% and 85.2% for the Dodge Charger, which places them respectively in 7th and 9th place among the best sellers in this category.
These fluctuations are directly related to automakers’ supply problems, analysts say.
