A special global presentation provided an in-depth look at this swoopy luxury crossover.
On February 23, Infiniti revealed its new QX55 luxury crossover coupe during a special virtual global product presentation launch program. Media from different parts of the world got the opportunity to not only sample the new QX55 close-up but also ask questions with global product planning, design and marketing teams as well as regional Infiniti executives—all to gain a thorough understanding of when the vehicle will be hitting a particular market and the trims and features that will be available.
Three trim levels
In Canada, the 2022 QX55 will begin arriving at dealers in April with a starting MSRP of $51,995. Canadian models will be offered in three trim levels, LUXE, ESSENTIAL ProASSIST and SENSORY and are aimed squarely at the likes of the Range Rover Evoque, BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, being a luxury crossover designed to attract those that choose their own path in life.
The coupe-like fast roof profile and high beltline are designed to convey a feeling of sophisticated sportiness with the front fenders looking like they’ve almost been pulled taught over the large wheel openings.
The 2022 QX55 will be offered in a choice of eight exterior colours: Majestic White, Liquid Platinum, Graphite Shadow, Mineral Black, Black Obsidian; Hermosa Blue as well as a dramatic Dynamic Sunstone Red and Slate Gray.
Under the skin, the QX55 boasts a 268 horsepower 2.0-litre VC turbocharged four-cylinder engine, teamed exclusively with continuously variable transmission and in Canada, standard intelligent all-wheel drive. Those who like to indulge in a bit more hands-on driving also have the option to engage in manual transmission mode and adjust engine speed via paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
Well-appointed
Despite offering just three trim levels in Canada, each QX55 comes well-appointed. Standard on all models is 20-inch wheels and tires, wireless Apple CarPlay, Drive Mode Selector to allow the driver to customize settings for each journey, as well as Infiniti’s InTouch dual-screen system with 8-inch upper and 7-inch lower infotainment screens.
Building on the LUXE is the ($56,998 MSRP) ESSENTIAL ProASSIST which adds navigation to the Infiniti InTouch system, standard leather seats, Bose Performance Series premium audio system, and Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection. Other standard features include an adaptive lighting system, LED headlights as well as a whole plethora of ADAS features including Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Blind Spot Intervention and Lane Departure Prevention.
Added comfort and convenience
The top-of-the-line SENSORY trim level (MSRP $60,998) adds special semi-aniline leather seating, upmarket natural maple wood interior trim as well as a three-zone automatic climate control system. Other niceties include ambient interior lighting as well as a motion-activated liftgate to facilitate easy luggage access.
Driver assistance features build on those found on the ESSENTIAL ProASSIST and include a Head-Up Display, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Steering, and the ProPILOT Assist system, which works in conjunction with the Steering Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control functions.
Later in the year, a new three-row QX60 will join the lineup as Infiniti builds upon its latest product overhaul, kickstarted with the arrival of the new 2022 QX55. Additional new vehicles are expected in the coming months and years. Stay tuned to Autosphere.ca for more details.
