Commemorating 90 years since introducing its first dedicated winter tire in 1936, Nokian Tyres has launched the Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta 01 across North American, Nordic, and Central European retail networks for the fall 2026 season. The product resets the brand’s numerical naming convention to showcase its new proprietary On-Demand Grip technology.
For tire dealers, automotive repair shops, and fleet operators, the technical advancement directly addresses road surface damage and cabin noise issues historically associated with studded winter tires. An adaptive base layer beneath the tread pushes studs outward on ice and packed snow, while allowing them to retract deeper into the tread matrix when driving on dry or wet asphalt.
“The Hakkapeliitta product family is an iconic part of our heritage and continues to play a central role in our strategy,” said Nokian Tyres President and CEO Paolo Pompei. “The new Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta 01 is a clear demonstration of that commitment, combining our long-standing expertise with the latest advancements in safety and performance.”
Performance data indicates the Hakkapeliitta 01 reduces road wear by up to 30 percent compared to the outgoing Hakkapeliitta 10, while boosting ice grip by up to 10 percent, wet grip by 5 percent, and lowering interior cabin noise by one decibel.
Validated at Nokian’s “White Hell” proving grounds in Ivalo, Finland, the Hakkapeliitta 01 will be stocked in passenger car and SUV fitments.
