In mid-September, a Chinese, a Swiss, and a Canadian took their places on the world podium for Automotive Technology.
Of the 28 Canadian participants, Bronze medalist Anthony Minotti stood out by achieving the best result in his discipline, earning him the title of Best of Nation.
This year, the major 2024 trades competitions for graduates were held in Lyon, France. All under 23 years old, 1,500 competitors demonstrated their expertise in 62 disciplines, including 76 in automotive.
Represented by 28 competitors in 26 fields, Canada won two bronze medals, one in Automotive Technology and another in Welding, as well as eight medallions of excellence.
In automotive trades, Quebec’s Anthony Minotti from Sainte-Adèle and Gabrielle Leclerc from Saint-Eustache competed alongside Manitoba’s James Bartel from Kleefeld.
The challenge is so great that it’s very rare for a score to reach 800 or more out of 1,000; however, this happened in four computerized disciplines, with the maximum even reaching 900 in Industry 4.0, won by China.
In fact, Asian countries swept the most medals, with China alone accumulating 69 – 43 Gold, 13 Silver, 16 Bronze—earned by teams specializing in competitions.
The next WorldSkills Competition, which takes place every two years, will be held in Shanghai from September 22 to 27, 2026.
