With fuel economy top of mind for both OEMs and consumers, choosing the right ignition components can have a big impact on combustion efficiency, fuel mileage and vehicle performance.

While visiting Niterra at booth #3226, Autosphere had the opportunity to chat with Mark Gibson, National Sales Manager, Canada, who showed us NGK’s Laser Iridium spark plugs designed for OE applications, as well as the Ruthenium HX. The latter said Gibson, while not the official OE plug, is OE pedigree and using Ruthenium offers strong resistance and durability.

“These two premium line plugs represent around half of NGK sales,” he said. Gibson explained these plugs are popular because they are designed to optimize fuel burn and last for extended periods, 100,000 miles (160,000 km). New to the Canadian aftermarket are NGK Ignition Coils which cover 90% of vehicles currently in operation via more than 277 individual part numbers. These coils are ISO 17025 certified and engineered to OE standards of durability and performance, having gone through extensive testing and development to get to market. New at AAPEX 2023 were NGK Mod Performance Ignition coils designed for high-performance late-model vehicles.

In June, NGK Spark Plugs Canada was named Niterra, to better reflect the company’s strategy, though products will continue to be manufactured and distributed under the NGK and NTK brands for spark plug and ceramic-related item portfolios.
