ZF Aftermarket’s turn assist system won an award in the innovative products section at the recent Automechanika show in Germany.

WABCO, owned by ZF Aftermarket since 2020, develops several advanced commercial vehicle management systems. The Turning Assistance System CV Retrofit Solution was among the 133 products proposed for this prestigious competition.

The winners were chosen in eight categories by a panel of 14 automotive industry experts.

In the commercial vehicle category, ZF Aftermarket was recognized for its commercial vehicle turn assist system. In fact, it is an evolution of an advanced driver assistance system that can be installed on commercial vehicles to warn the driver of lane departure.

On the developer’s website, it is explained that research in vehicle automation often results in solutions that can be quickly applied to the existing fleet. This system, which should be commercialized in Europe next year, is the result of these steps.

The system’s sensors combine radar and optical signals, making it easy to detect and identify objects in the blind spots of commercial vehicles. Just as here, thousands of lives are lost every year in Europe due to trucks making risky turns in urban areas.

The combination of the two detection technologies is also effective in heavy rain, fog and snow conditions.
