May 1, 2020 saw the new ILSAC GF-6A and GF-6B, and API SP oil standards that can be licensed under API’s Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS).

It also marks the first day that marketers can begin selling the next-generation engine oils under the EOLCS.

The improved performance standards for engine oils will provide greater protection and efficiency for today’s gasoline-engine-powered cars, trucks and SUVs.

New API Engine Oil Standards Good for Consumers, Environment

Different marks designate which oil standard is to be used. The Shield goes with GF-6B oils and the Starburst is for GF-6A oils. The Service Symbol Donut is for API SP oils.
