Quebec Excellence Stands Out at Hyundai

One hundred Hyundai dealerships from around the world gathered in Miami in November 2024 to celebrate their 2024 Dealer of the Year title.

Beauport Hyundai dealership was recognized among the world’s best by the parent company last fall.

In late November, representatives from one hundred Hyundai dealerships from around the world converged on Miami. More than just a privileged moment to exchange views on their respective situations, the gathering brought together winners of the Dealer of the Year (DOTY) distinction, awarded by parent company Hyundai Motor Group. The major event, in its second year, brought together global retailers who distinguished themselves during the year. The delegation also included senior management members from each honoured country.

Four Canadian dealers were among the recipients, including one from Quebec. Representing Beauport Hyundai, Annie Laliberté, General Manager and partner of Beauport Hyundai, accompanied by Paul Daigle, President of Groupe Daigle, took part in the trip.

Although it’s the “smallest trophy I’ve received in my career,” Ms. Laliberté emphasizes that the “very sleek white block” barely six inches tall bearing the inscription “Dealer of the Year 2024” fills all company employees with pride.

Candidate selection was based on ten criteria, including market share, customer service satisfaction for sales and service, and financial performance. Two criteria related to the “Signature” program, an exclusively Canadian initiative. Ms. Laliberté mentions that her team works tirelessly to annually obtain the Platinum grade of this certification, which requires a high level of customer satisfaction.

During the first day of the trip, award winners got a glimpse of Hyundai Motor Group’s future.

An award worth the visit

For now, though, the DOTY recognition takes centre stage. “In my opinion,” explains the GM, “this award deserves the trip to our dealership. We are the only ones in Quebec to have earned this title in 2024. This distinction results from good practices already implemented by the organization and thus recognizes the overall achievement.”

The winners had been announced at the end of summer. The trophy, accompanied by an official letter, had been sent before the summit meeting. Consequently, the brief trip to Miami didn’t include any award ceremony.

More focused on exchanges, discovering diverse customer needs worldwide, and celebrating DOTY with the greater Hyundai family than on business, the three-day getaway still included a session dedicated to the manufacturer’s agenda: presentation of future models and generations, innovative technologies—including the exhibition of the new NACS (North American Charging Standard) adapter—as well as its five-year plan.

Ms. Laliberté admits, however, that she didn’t receive any unprecedented information during this meeting since it occurred just weeks after the manufacturer’s North American meeting. Participants had then gotten a preview of what awaited them in the coming years.

She emphasizes, however, the South Korean firm’s boldness which, unlike other brands, dares to explore multiple avenues while having a clear vision of its future. “That’s what I retained,” she specifies, when relating Hyundai’s announcement that, having delivered its 100 millionth vehicle, now aspires to double that figure.

Beauport Hyundai is the only Quebec dealership to have won the 2024 Dealer of the Year title.

Think big!

To achieve its objective, Hyundai will offer a variety of products powered by various propulsion methods. The manufacturer will retain hydrogen as a backup solution but will play the hybridization card more extensively. It intends to offer 21 models equipped with dual powertrains by 2030, while continuing to use gasoline as well as electricity, two sources it will notably exploit together through its recent EREV (Extended Range Electrified Vehicle) innovation. The latter paves the way for new-generation EVs. Here, the combustion engine handles replenishing the battery’s energy, replacing the need to connect to a charging station for refuelling.

The use of such a wide range of technologies, however, raises the spectre of challenges, indicates Ms. Laliberté. These may complicate the recruitment of specialized workforce.

Human resources management is, moreover, part of Ms. Laliberté’s vast field of expertise, who has accumulated 35 years in the automotive industry, including 16 years at Beauport Hyundai dealership. Close to her team, she likes to participate in problem-solving. When the opportunity arises, she thus puts “her strength and passion” at the service of this key process, combined with her solid experience, to promote retention on both sides. “Beauport Hyundai’s objectives following this DOTY recognition don’t change. I continue to believe that overall success stems from our customers’ satisfaction, but also from our employees’ satisfaction. That’s the foundation.”

The involvement of this jack-of-all-trades extends beyond her dealership’s boundaries. Ms. Laliberté is involved in three of the manufacturer’s national committees (marketing, parts and services, advisory). But in the Quebec City region, “when I talk about Beauport Hyundai’s role, it’s more at the charitable level than the automotive level that things happen. Beyond money, you have to offer your time.”

Community engagement is an integral part of the company’s values, and the GM ensures to raise awareness among her staff to increase everyone’s level of involvement in the various causes she supports: Moisson Québec, Organization for People with Cancer (OQPAC), Petit Blanchon, Breast Cancer. “When you have a reputation like ours and you get involved in causes close to your heart, it can lead people to give.”
