We will only grow during a time of crisis if we keep our eye on the opportunities available to us.

It has been widely reported that the world’s richest people have a higher net worth now than they did just prior to the start of the pandemic. How is it possible to amass wealth during a global crisis? The secret is to focus on opportunities at a time when others are preoccupied with risk and loss.

Granted, that’s easier said than done, and there’s more to it than what I outlined above, but it has often been said that every crisis comes with opportunities. Those who understand this truth, and can leverage it to their benefit, manage to come out on top, crisis after crisis.

Follow the trailblazers

As you read through the pages of this issue of Autosphere Mag, you’ll notice that many of the business leaders who have shared their ideas and opinions with you, our readers, are the kind of trailblazers who are able to take advantage of opportunities.

For example, when you read the Association Viewpoint column penned by Steve Fletcher, Managing Director of the Automotive Recyclers of Canada and the Executive Director of the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association, you’ll see the opportunities he has spotted for recyclers.

With so many dealerships and aftermaket garages struggling to find parts, Fletcher sees this as a golden opportunity for recyclers to reach out and offer salvaged parts as an option.

Moreover, Fletcher is strongly advising recyclers to jump on the opportunity now. “Like everything else,” he says, “this scenario won’t last forever, which is why if you’re not actively promoting your recycling business and engaging with repairers and insurers, you need to take advantage of this opportunity now.”

Music to your ears

In his Entre nous column, in the French edition of Autosphere Mag, André Gamelin, owner of two Pièces d’auto Super stores in Quebec explains how service bays across Canada are now filling up with older cars after the pandemic, and how this is an opportunity that the aftermarket needs to embrace.

With new vehicle impossible to acquire nowadays, he explains why a client who wants to keep his older vehicle should be music to an automotive technician’s ears.

The bottom line is that we will all continue to face challenges in business. That’s a given. The question is how will we respond? Hopefully, we will continue to look for opportunities that will allow us to grow, prosper and increase our net worth too.
