On February 20, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced the vehicles selected as the best in Canada for 2021.

These vehicles selected by AJAC member journalists, represent eight different categories in segments that range from cars to utility vehicles and pick-up trucks.

Among OEMs, Genesis and Kia both received a pair of category wins for 2021 with one Kia branded vehicle, the Telluride, securing a repeat win in the Best Large Utility category. Additionally, Mazda also secured a repeat win with the Mazda3 securing the Best Midsize Car in Canada award for the second year in a row.

More than 250 vehicles were considered eligible for the 2021 AJAC awards and in order to qualify, vehicles have to be current on-sale vehicles which are either newly designed, recently refreshed, or carried over from the previous year.

These vehicles were all eligible upon receiving a minimum number of ballots submitted by AJAC journalists. Voting data was collected from expert jurors based from Vancouver to Halifax, who tested each vehicle on the same roads and in the same conditions faced by Canadian drivers from coast to coast every day.

“Despite the many challenges presented throughout 2020, AJAC journalists rallied to submit ballots based on real-world test drives and produce this list of winners presented on Zone Auto today in collaboration with the Montreal International Auto Show,” said Stephanie Wallcraft, AJAC President.

“AJAC counts dozens of Canada’s foremost automotive critics among its membership. In producing these results, our journalist members demonstrated fierce dedication to their craft, informing Canadian drivers of the vehicles worthy of their purchase consideration in 2021.”

With this announcement of the category winners, each of the six OEMs that manufacture them, move one step closer to winning the 2021 Canadian Car of the Year and 2021 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year awards.

The announcement of the Canadian Car and Utility of the Year will made at a later date in March 2021 (stay tuned to Autosphere.ca for more details).
