Bringing Back the Beast

After a brief absence, the TRX returns for 2027 with more power, more technology and an even stronger focus on premium performance.
When Ram discontinued the original TRX, many enthusiasts wondered whether the supercharged off-road pickup, designed to rival the Ford Raptor, had reached the end of the road. It hadn’t.
For 2027, the TRX returns as the Ram 1500 TRX SRT, reclaiming its place at the top of Ram’s performance hierarchy with even more power, additional technology and a renewed role as the brand’s halo vehicle.
The truck arrives at Canadian dealerships this fall with a starting MSRP of $144,995, positioning it as a premium product while still offering what a Ram spokesperson told Autosphere Mag is the best horsepower-per-dollar value among premium full-size off-road pickups.

More than a comeback
According to Ram, customer demand played a major role in bringing the truck back. “TRX is a halo product for the Ram brand that excites enthusiasts the world over, and it was missed by our customers when it was discontinued,” the Ram spokesperson told us.
That sentiment reflects the unique role halo vehicles play in today’s marketplace. While TRX sales volumes will naturally be modest compared with mainstream Ram 1500 models, its influence extends well beyond the customers who ultimately purchase one.
High-profile vehicles create excitement, generate media attention and reinforce brand identity. They also encourage buyers to visit dealerships, where many ultimately purchase other models within the lineup.

Raising the bar
Simply bringing back the previous TRX would not have been enough. Engineered by the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team at Stellantis, the 2027 model pushes performance even further than its predecessor.
Under the hood, a 6.2-litre supercharged HEMI V8 pumps out an astonishing 777 horsepower and 680 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s an increase of 75 horsepower over the previous generation.
The TRX accelerates from 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 3.5 seconds while reaching a top speed of 190 km/h 118 mph), making it the fastest and most powerful production gasoline-powered off-road pickup currently available.
Rather than chasing headline numbers alone, however, Ram says the engineering team also focused on improving real-world capability.
Lessons learned from developing the Ram RHO influenced updated software for the Ram Active Terrain Dynamics system, which improves how the Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive suspension responds during aggressive off-road driving, including while the truck is airborne.
Luxury meets capability
Like many modern performance trucks, the TRX is designed to deliver supercar-level acceleration without sacrificing everyday comfort. In fact, the cabin rivals many luxury SUVs.
The combination of power, performance and luxury reflects a growing trend among premium truck buyers, many of whom expect flagship pickups to perform double duty as luxury daily drivers.
At the same time, the TRX retains the hardware necessary for serious off-road use: 35-inch tires, 11.8 inches of ground clearance, and up to 14 inches of rear axle travel ensure the truck remains every bit as capable away from pavement as its predecessor.
The definition of performance
One of the most notable additions for 2027 isn’t found under the hood. For the first time, the TRX includes Hands-Free Active Drive Assist (Level 2+) as standard equipment.
According to Ram, the truck is one of only two high-performance gasoline-powered off-road pickups to offer the capability, alongside its stablemate, the Ram RHO.
While autonomous driving technology might seem at odds with a supercharged off-road truck, it reflects changing customer expectations. Even buyers seeking extreme performance increasingly expect advanced driver assistance technologies for long highway journeys, making the truck equally comfortable commuting, towing or travelling long distances.
Building brand equity
For dealers, one of the most interesting aspects of the new TRX may be its strategic importance. Ram openly acknowledges that the truck is intended to attract multiple customer groups simultaneously.
Existing TRX owners are obvious candidates. Performance enthusiasts from competing brands represent another target audience.
Perhaps most importantly, the TRX serves as an aspirational product that enhances the image of every Ram vehicle on the showroom floor. It reinforces the message that Ram continues to compete aggressively in both capability and innovation while maintaining broad appeal across multiple price points.
Marketing efforts will reflect that positioning, with Ram planning extensive promotion through social media channels and events across Canada leading up to the truck’s arrival.
Customers looking for an even more exclusive truck can opt for the Bloodshot Night Edition package. While Ram has not disclosed how many examples will be produced, the company has confirmed that the Bloodshot Night Edition will be offered as a limited-run package.
Priced at $13,495, the package adds several unique design elements, including a hand-painted Blacktop upper body with a Flame Red centre stripe, custom graphics, exclusive interior accents and beadlock-capable wheels finished with Satin Titanium rings.
Canada: an important market
Although the United States remains Ram’s largest market, Canada continues to play an important role in the company’s overall business.
Ram recorded 48,005 Canadian sales during 2025 and sold 14,789 vehicles during the first half of 2026. The company says early customer interest in the TRX has been strong, although it has not disclosed Canadian allocation numbers.
The truck will initially arrive at select Canadian dealerships during the third quarter of 2026.
The ultimate expression of the brand
The performance truck segment has evolved rapidly over the past decade, with increasingly powerful engines, sophisticated suspension systems and luxury interiors becoming expected rather than exceptional.
Yet even in that competitive landscape, the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT establishes itself as something distinctive. More importantly, it signals Ram’s intention to maintain a flagship capable of defining the brand.
As the company puts it, the hope is that buyers see the TRX SRT as “the ultimate expression of the Ram brand,” blending legendary TRX capability with SRT performance engineering to create a truck unlike any other.
For dealers, that may ultimately be the truck’s greatest value, not simply as a high-performance pickup, but as the vehicle that draws customers into the showroom and reminds them what the Ram name represents.
