Refreshed 2027 Kia Niro Shifts to an Exclusive Hybrid-Only Lineup

The exterior skin transitions into the brand's "Opposites United" architecture.
Commemorating a decade since the nameplate’s initial concept debut, Kia America has pulled back the curtain on the comprehensive mid-cycle refresh for the 2027 Kia Niro. The rollout confirms a massive strategic realignment for the compact crossover platform: the model range has officially dropped its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (EV) configurations to focus exclusively on standard hybrid power (HEV). This optimization clears the runway for the imminent market arrival of the similarly sized, dedicated electric Kia EV3.
The exterior skin transitions into the brand’s “Opposites United” architecture. A sharply revised front fascia standardizes the signature “Star Map” vertical LED daytime running lights, effectively expanding the crossover’s visual track. Out back, a smoothed liftgate relocates the license plate pocket down to the bumper fascia, complemented by restyled 3D-effect taillamps. Interior changes are anchored by a new continuous, panoramic curved display housing a standard 12.3-inch central touchscreen running the updated ccNC operating system, complete with a fresh two-tone geometric steering wheel.
Enhancing Margins in the Value-Conscious Crossover Segment
For Canadian dealer principals and fleet procurement teams seeking high-efficiency alternatives, the 2027 Niro continues to serve as a vital volume entry. The powertrain relies on the carried-over 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric drive unit, sending a combined 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
To capture a broader retail demographic, Kia is adjusting the trim walk by introducing a new mid-tier S trim, which joins the established LX, EX, and SX lines. Mechanically, factory teams targeted ride plushness and cabin NVH levels by re-valving the damper stacks to filter out high-frequency road vibrations and adding dense acoustic insulation across the floorboards. On the safety side, the ADAS suite expands to include Junction Turning logic for the autonomous braking network alongside Highway Drive Assist 2 paired with full steering wheel Hands-on-Detection (HOD) monitoring. Regional destination pricing maps will be distributed ahead of the vehicle’s physical showroom launch later this summer.
