Quebec-based automotive retailer Groupe Olivier has completed its entry into the United States market with the acquisition of Bell Auto Group and Knapp Chevrolet in Michigan. Led by President Jacques Olivier alongside partners Daniel Fox and Michel Martineau, the transaction includes Bell Chevrolet Cadillac and Bell Ford Lincoln in Adrian, as well as Knapp Chevrolet in Blissfield.
For Canadian dealer groups and automotive M&A advisors, this cross-border transaction highlights growing interest from domestic auto groups seeking scale beyond Canadian borders. Facilitated by automotive transaction firm DSMA, the deal required navigating distinct U.S. state regulatory frameworks, franchise laws, and manufacturer approval processes.
With an existing portfolio of 26 dealerships across Quebec and New Brunswick representing major domestic and import OEM brands, the acquisition represents Groupe Olivier’s first operational footprint in the American market. Expanding into the U.S. Midwest provides the group with new retail revenue streams and geographic diversification.
