The Tire Industry Project appoints Dr. Willie Peijnenburg to its Assurance Group.
Appointing a top ecotoxicologist to TIP’s independent Assurance Group reinforces the scientific credibility underpinning future tire emission and sustainability regulations.
The Tire Industry Project (TIP) has appointed Dr. Willie Peijnenburg to its external Assurance Group, an independent committee of scientific experts that guides the organization’s research agenda. A Professor of Environmental Toxicology at Leiden University and Senior Researcher at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), Dr. Peijnenburg specializes in chemical risk assessment and environmental ecotoxicology.
For tire manufacturers, chemical suppliers, and automotive industry stakeholders across North America, the committee’s independent oversight ensures that research into tire wear particles, environmental emissions, and chemical safety adheres to rigorous, peer-reviewed standards. These scientific findings serve as benchmark data for regulators and industry decision-makers establishing long-term environmental policies and sustainability frameworks.
Dr. Peijnenburg joins a panel of six independent practitioners, filling positions vacated by departing founding members Dr. John Spengler of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Dr. Iseult Lynch of the University of Birmingham.
