Kumho Tire has won the Green Good Design Award 2024 of North America in the Green Transportation category.

The award is an extension of the Good Design Award, one of the three most prestigious honours in the design world. It recognizes design works that promote environment-friendliness and sustainability and is organized by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.

Kumho has enjoyed the honour of having three products named as winners: the Majesty X SOLUS, SOLUS TA21, and Road Venture AT52.

An upgraded version of the premium Majesty SOLUS tire, the Majesty X SOLUS is the highest-end model designed for sedans, coupes, and crossover vehicles. It delivers superb in-vehicle comfort and handling performance, boasting versatility on all surfaces, including dry, wet, and snowy roads. The tire enhances comfort through noise reduction technology that employs dimples to distribute noise from tire grooves more evenly. It also leverages an advanced system for pattern design and analysis to improve driving performance and reduce wear.

Broad lineup

With a broad lineup ranging from 13 to 18 inches, the SOLUS TA21 can accommodate compact cars, C-segment vehicles, and midsize cars, offering great value for money through affordable pricing and best-in-class performance. It uses all-season tire compounds suited for the Korean environment, and its optimum block patterns designed for noise distribution and reduction ensure excellent in-vehicle comfort and superb noise performance.

The Road Venture AT52 is designed for both on- and off-road use, delivering reliable performance on rugged terrains across North America including rocky and muddy road surfaces, a feature that makes the tire popular among users of pickup trucks, SUVs, and Jeep vehicles. Its robust shoulder block geometry on the tread features saw-tooth edges for improved off-road grip, while its five-pitch block variation enables quiet and comfortable driving on regular roads.

Kim Youngjin, Head of the R&D Division at Kumho Tire, said, “Tire makers have a social responsibility for the environmental impact of their products. Improved design can increase the duration of product use through greater anti-wear performance and higher fuel efficiency, which, in turn, reduces waste tires and contributes to the prevention of environmental pollution. We will further strengthen our technological prowess regarding eco-friendliness and sustainability to transform ourselves into a brand that excels in both design and quality.”

Recently, Kumho won the Good Design Award of Japan for its WinterCRAFT WP52 EV. This model was also honoured with Germany’s Red Dot Design Award 2024 in April.
