I-CAR Unveils New Structural Course Tied to Gold Class Renewals

The technical curriculum directly impacts Canadian collision repair facilities.
I-CAR has officially launched registration for its newly developed Mixed Attachment Methods course, introducing a vital practical application module for structural collision repair technicians across North America. Engineered to consolidate complex joining techniques mandated by modern OEM repair procedures, the in-person course integrates rivet bonding, MAG welding, MIG brazing, steel sectioning, and resistance spot welding into a single, comprehensive skills assessment.
The technical curriculum directly impacts Canadian collision repair facilities. This new hands-on module is slated to replace the existing Steel Sectioning Recertification pathway for individual Platinum technician recognition.
More importantly, it will officially become a mandatory requirement for shop-level Gold Class renewals beginning July 1, 2027. Consistent with standard I-CAR welding credentials, the certification will carry a three-year validity period.
For Canadian shop owners and multi-store operators (MSOs)—whose insurance network DRP (Direct Repair Program) compliance often hinges on maintaining Gold Class status—this rollout establishes a clear timeline for training schedules.
To assist technicians ahead of the live, in-shop practical evaluation, I-CAR is releasing a complimentary online preparatory course featuring a downloadable technical training guide.
