The Right Tire for the Right Customer

Offering your customers quality tires is the best way to ensure their peace of mind. (Credit : Mark Potvin)
Today’s vehicles are so technologically advanced that driving has greatly improved to help us avoid obstacles, respect speed limits, and stay on course, often autonomously.
However, there is still one key safety element that determines whether all these systems can truly do their job. In my opinion, the most important component on any vehicle is the tires. All those onboard computers will do their best to keep you safe on the road, but they cannot assess the level of tire wear on your customer’s car. It is up to you to make sure everything is in proper condition.
Before the winter season, many tire suppliers offer promotions, incentives, and useful explanations to help compensate for your customers’ lack of experience when it comes to buying winter tires. It is up to you, the experts in this field, to take the time to explain why quality tires are so important for facing our harsh weather conditions. That is not always done during tire changeover season.
Your customers rely on your expertise to make the best decision. The tires you sell are, in a way, your professional signature. I always go for premium tires. Nokian Tyres, for instance, has proven exceptionally reliable in our variable winter conditions.
Offer quality
In fact, I am not the only one who recommends quality tires to customers. Yes, the investment is greater, but winter driving performance and durability make all the difference. Of course, depending on usage and budget, we can find a solution for every situation. Given how critical tires are to vehicle safety and performance, we should offer our customers the highest quality options and take the time to explain why they matter.
Now that so many consumers shop for tires online, you need to stand out as the expert. We still see customers show up with the wrong size tires, thinking they saved money, when the right advice would have led them to tires that actually fit their vehicle and match their driving needs and budget. When it comes to price, the gap is now small between online offers and what shops provide, and many manufacturers offer seasonal rebates that you can pass on to customers who come through your doors.
Ultimately, regardless of the season, when you see that a customer’s vehicle needs new tires, take the time to listen to their needs and recommend the best or most suitable option to ensure their comfort and safety.
