Shad’s R&R for the Kids’ 50th Anniversary year was likely their best—a sold-out golf tournament (they had to turn people away)—but notably, their annual contribution to MDC!

Chairman Brad Shaddick—son of the organization’s founder, Fred Shaddick—presented Stacey Lintern, CEO of Muscular Dystrophy Canada with a cheque for $270,000 for the year. But more importantly, this brings Shad’s R&R contributions to… BIG DRUM ROLL… OVER $ 6,000,000.00 through the years!!!  A lot of work by a lot of people… and our hearty and most sincere congratulations go out to all of them. They have worked tirelessly to support their chosen charity, Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

On hand for this big event were several board members as well as two past chairmen- Greg Stone and Don Chase. All were heartily welcomed.

Determination and perseverance

The program at Shad’s is always interesting and one of the most heartwarming program events was a narrative from Danielle Campo. She had Muscular Dystrophy (Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)) as a child and was determined to live a natural life. She began swimming and that helped her condition immensely. Through all this, Campo was resolute in her resolve to lead a life like others did… grow up, finish school, get married, have children. And she did!

Although Danielle Campo constantly lived through terrible pain and in one instance, was in a medically induced coma after battling sepsis, she and her family (husband and four children) have fought on to inspire Canadians with her motivational speaking and mental health advocacy. She was a Paralympic Gold medalist in swimming and inspired many others to follow her path. Danielle is now the National Director of Mission for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. She was awarded the Order of Ontario in 2001—the youngest person ever honoured. She told an amazing story of strength and perseverance, and everyone in the room was in awe. You can read all about her journey online…. she is truly an inspiration to all those so afflicted.

Charlie Grant becomes new Chairperson

On another note, four of the Shad’s R&R Board members retired after years of service—Marilyn James, Luc Champagne, Samantha Cianfarani and Mike Fazackerley. They were presented with a plaque for their steadfast service, along with a gift from the grateful board members.

In addition, Brad Shaddick is stepping down as Chairperson… and Charlie Grant of Grant Brothers Sales will take over this position. Shaddick was surprised and honoured by Stacey Lintern when she presented him with a medal—the King Charles 111 Coronation Award—on behalf of MDC for his service to Shad’s R&R for the Kids— and dedication to his father’s legacy over the years.

Shad’s R&R for the Kids 2025 will go down in history as an awesome year… the year Shad’s R&R contributed over $6,000,000 to charit Shad’s R&R Has Given Over $6,000,000 to Muscular Dystrophy Canada ! Well done everyone!
