As in sport, major world competitions are held in the trades sector, preceded by national elimination rounds.

This year, the impressive Skills Canada National Competition will be held at the Centre de foires de Québec, in Québec City, on May 30 and 31.

It’s a huge event in which Skills/Compétences Canada showcases the very best talent, and selects those who will compete in the fall against 1,500 champions from 65 countries and regions.

Impressive competitions

At the end of May, more than 550 competitors will face off for 12 hours, demonstrating their skills, knowledge and determination to represent Canada at the WorldSkills International Competition.

Of the 45 disciplines in both traditional and high-tech trades, automotive maintenance and repair will feature three, with 44 competitors competing in automobile technology, autobody repair and car painting.

Medals will be awarded on Saturday, June 1, at a ceremony honouring the best of the next generation.

This ultimate springboard will take 27 winners to Lyon, where the 47th WorldSkills International Competition will be held from September 10 to 15, 2024.

The Skills Canada Competition is an exceptional opportunity to see just how essential hundreds of hours of training are required to master these skills.
