Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) achieved a record-breaking 2023 calendar year with total retail sales of 35,708 units, up 61.6% from 2022 (22,101 units) and surpassing by more than 10,000 the previous-best calendar year figure set in 2019 (25,535).
Sales were led by the Outlander and Outlander PHEV compact SUVs, which won the AJAC Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada Award for 2023. Outlander saw 23% year-over-year sales growth with 9,640 units sold. The all-new Outlander PHEV, which remains the best-selling PHEV SUV in Canada, saw a remarkable 388% year-over-year growth with 9,911 units sold. Canada continues to be one of Mitsubishi’s top markets for Outlander PHEV sales.
The calendar year ended on a strong note with the best December on record for MMSCAN with total retail sales of 2,686 units. It continued a string of best months on record for Mitsubishi Motors in Canada with each month of the 2023 calendar year setting a new sales record for that particular month.
For the final quarter of the year, total retail sales of 8,553 units were the best on record for MMSCAN and marked a 44% increase from the same period last year.
“Our CY23 results demonstrate the continued strength and growth of the Mitsubishi Motors brand in Canada and reaffirm that we’re selling the type of vehicles Canadians are looking for,” said Kenji Harada, President and CEO.
As it looks toward the future, Harada said MMSCAN also took important steps in 2023 to increase capacity for growth by adding a second port in Nanaimo, B.C. for vehicle imports, as well as significantly increasing the size of its Parts Distribution Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
