Mazda Canada has unveiled the world’s first Mazda CX-50.

The CX-50, an all-new model, is the first Mazda vehicle built at the new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) plant in Huntsville, Alabama; production is scheduled to begin in January 2022.

Mazda has expanded the capabilities of this vehicle to allow drivers to venture further into the great outdoors and over diverse terrain.

The first-ever CX-50 showcases the natural driving experience of the Mazda brand to create greater confidence on and off the road.

To enhance this experience, it will be equipped, like the standard models, with the latest version of i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive technology and Mazda’s new Intelligent Drive Mode Selection System or Mi-Drive.

The new driving modes can be selected with the Mi-Drive button and the SUV will drive naturally in a wide variety of conditions, such as exciting off-road terrain, or it can provide incredible towing capabilities.

At launch, the CX-50 will be available with efficient powertrains; a naturally-aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5 engine or the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine, paired with a precise and agile 6-speed automatic transmission.

In the coming years, the CX-50 will also be offered with electric powertrains, including a traditional hybrid model. More information on our electric models will be shared at a later date.

The design

The long, elegant silhouette and wide stance give the vehicle dynamic proportions that balance the integrated design elements with the robust exterior.

As with other current Mazda models, the interior of the CX-50 stands out for its careful craftsmanship and driver-oriented layout.

The mix of seating materials and details, inspired by modern outdoor gear, helps create a warm atmosphere that is suitable for both adventurers and those beginning their journey into an active lifestyle.

The new panoramic sunroof, a first for Mazda, helps the passenger feel more connected to nature.

The CX-50 will also feature new colour options, such as a Zircon Sand exterior paint and an available Terracotta interior colour.

Functional

While the interior offers comfort to all passengers, the cargo area has been carefully designed to support and enable outdoor activities.

The height and length of the vehicle are ideal for easy loading and for carrying the usual outdoor equipment.

In addition, heavy-duty roof rails and reinforced B-pillars and door sills increase the ability to mount equipment on the CX-50’s roof.

This all-new vehicle will encourage our customers to explore the great outdoors without having to compromise on unique design or dynamic driving.
