The limited-edition Honda Civic Type R sold out of all its Canadian units in just 4 minutes.

Customers were invited to visit Honda’s website on May 21 to make a reservation at their local Honda dealer, and Type R enthusiasts answered the call. Only 100 units will hit the road in Canada.

The limited-edition Type R is lighter and faster.

It will feature all the updates of the 2020 model year Type R, plus additional improvements designed to make it the ultimate road safety-compliant track car.

The Civic Type R 2021 Limited Edition features the following changes from the base model:

  • Lightweight forged aluminum wheels from renowned manufacturer BBS (total unsprung weight reduction of 8 kg/18 lbs.)
  • Further weight reduction through the reduction of sound-absorbing materials
  • Michelin Pilot Sport CUP2 high-performance tires for top performance on the track.

Paying homage to the Type R models of the past, the 2021 limited edition will be offered in a new colour exclusive to the model – brilliant Phoenix Yellow.

Exclusive additions to the model include a contrasting gloss black paint finish on the roof, exterior mirror housings and hood scoop, and a dark chrome Civic emblem on the tailgate.

Each unit will feature an individually numbered serial plate, indicating that the vehicle is one of 100 sold in Canada.

The new limited edition Type R shares the mechanical and cosmetic enhancements of the 2020 Civic Type R.

Like the Civic Type R, the limited edition also comes standard with the Honda Sensing line of driver assistance and safety technologies, including Honda’s Collision Mitigation Braking SystemTM (CMBSTM) with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Under the hood, the Civic Type R 2021 Limited Edition draws its power from the same race-inspired 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder direct-injection engine.

The VTECTM valve train develops a peak power output of 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque (SAE net power for both), with power to the front wheels delivered through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

As with all Civic Type R models, the driver can choose from three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – that vary damping force, steering assist and throttle settings.

Also, Active Acoustic Control modifies the sound in the cabin according to the driving mode selected.
