Software provider Mitchell has launched Mitchell Intelligent Estimating for independent collision repair centres and multi-site operators across Canada and the United States. Previously utilised primarily by major insurance carriers, the cloud-based artificial intelligence system converts uploaded photos of vehicle damage into a detailed preliminary appraisal within minutes.
For Canadian collision repair centre owners, fixed operations directors, and insurance appraisal staff, automated blueprinting directly targets persistent skilled labour bottlenecks. By automating initial part line-item selections on routine repairs, the software frees senior technical appraisers to focus on structural measuring analysis, advanced driver assistance system calibrations, and complex mechanical assemblies.
In the United States, multi-facility operator Crash Champions became the launch partner for the platform, deploying the system across more than 650 collision centres in 38 states. Operating as an extension of Mitchell Cloud Estimating, the application standardises initial line-item generation while preserving complete manual control, allowing estimators to review, modify, and approve each repair file before insurer submission.
Standardising initial damage assessments gives Canadian collision shops a crucial operational advantage when coordinating with insurance partners. Accelerating the intake phase enables collision facilities to shorten key-to-key cycle times, eliminate bay bottlenecks, and capture higher billable throughput across paint and structural departments.
