Making a Difference: Enterprise Mobility and Food Banks Canada

Partnership shows real progress in addressing food shortages

This summer, Enterprise Mobility and key industry partners raised $160,000 in support of Food Banks Canada during their 28th annual charity golf tournament at King City.

While the event itself represents a highlight on the calendar for Enterprise Mobility’s charity initiatives, it is part of a broader strategy to strengthen regional support by finding ways to address food insecurity which can have a positive impact on local communities.  

Food insecurity is a growing problem in Canada. According to Food Banks Canada, the overall experience of poverty continues to grow. The organization discovered that related to the experience of poverty in this country, around 39% of people surveyed reported that they were worse off this year compared to last, while a whopping 66% reported that current government programs simply aren’t sufficient to keep up with the rising cost of living. 

That’s where initiatives like Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell program, which provides food to children and family during the summer months (when school-based supports are unavailable) are making a difference.

In an exclusive interview with Autosphere, Jennifer Everett, Vice President of Sales, Replacement & Leisure Division, Canada at Enterprise Mobility, noted that “supporting the communities where we live and work has always been an important part of who we are.” In 2016, Enterprise launched its Fill Your Tank program, an initiative designed to address food insecurity by supporting food banks, programs and distribution efforts across North America. 

Over the last decade, the program has morphed into one of Enterprise Mobility’s signature community initiatives on a global scale. “What makes this program particularly meaningful is that it allows us to combine long-term investment with local action,” says Everett.

A good example of that is the annual Enterprise Mobility Charity Golf Tournament, in which donations and sponsorships, combined with a a $70,000 match for Enterprise contributed to a very significant day of fundraising activities.

While financial support to organizations like Food Banks Canada is an essential part, Everett explains that it’s only one component of initiatives like this. “Through our work with Food Banks Canada, we’ve had the opportunity to build connections with local food banks and see firsthand the impact they make in their communities every day,” she says. “Many of our teams volunteer with food banks throughout the year,” explains Everett, “and those experiences provide a deeper understanding of both the challenges families are facing and the dedication of the people working to support them.”

She notes that over time, this support has strengthened the relationship between Enterprise and Food Banks Canada. “It’s not just about funding, it’s about working alongside organizations that have the expertise, local knowledge and commitment needed to address food insecurity in a meaningful way.”

Ensuring successful long-term results in tackling issues like food insecurity, requires sustained investment, support and action. “Food insecurity is a complex issue,” states Everett, “and meaningful progress takes time and requires ongoing support.” She notes it requires collaboration through national organizations as well as local food banks, community volunteers and donors. “Organizations like Food Banks Canada have the expertise, infrastructure and community relationships needed to help ensure resources reach the people who need them the most.” 

Everette explains that through the partnership between Enterprise Mobility and Food Banks Canada, real changes are underway. “Our partnership is showing meaningful results and helping transform Canada’s food bank system—expanding food support in underserved regions—as well as strengthening national capacity to meet growing demand and investing in the tools and research needed to drive greater impact.” Additionally, partnerships like this enable support of innovative solutions that address the root causes of food insecurity, helping reduce the long-term need for food bank services.

And the results are making a difference. Food Banks Canada’s 2026 Poverty Report Cards note that despite serious challenges remaining when it comes to combatting food insecurity, recent data is providing cautious optimism going forward. The 2026 report says that Food Banks Canada is “encouraged to see that policies we called for in our 2024 and 2025 reports have become reality, helping to slow deepening poverty in Canada. Highlights include progress toward automatic tax filing, the introduction of the Groceries and Essentials Benefit, expanded dental care, investments in childcare, and continued strengthening of the Canada Child Benefit. Significant investments in the North also present a generational opportunity to address deep and persistent inequities—if they are implemented in true partnership and centred on the priorities of Northern communities. We have also seen positive signs in provinces such as Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador and others that have implemented many of our recommendations over the last few years, leading to improvements in people’s experience of poverty.”
