The creation of a global coatings powerhouse clears a major hurdle, reshaping supply chains and paint brand options for collision repair centers.
Shareholders of Axalta Coating Systems and AkzoNobel have overwhelmingly voted to approve the previously announced all-stock merger of equals between the two companies.
The vote marks a pivotal milestone in combining two of the refinish industry’s largest players. Completion of the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. The merger is expected to close between late 2026 and early 2027.
“Our teams are working diligently to advance integration planning and remain focused on bringing together two highly complementary businesses,” stated Chris Villavarayan, Chief Executive Officer of Axalta, citing momentum following a record second quarter.
Impact on Collision Repair Operations
For Canadian bodyshops and jobbers, bringing Axalta (Cromax, Standox, Spies Hecker) and AkzoNobel (Sikkens, Lesonal) under one roof creates an unprecedented consolidation in refinish technologies.
While the companies highlight increased R&D capability and supply chain efficiency, shop owners and distributors will be closely watching for potential product line rationalizations, changes in local distribution networks, and shifts in market pricing dynamics once integration begins.
