From March 30-April 1, 2023, the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA) will be hosting its annual convention at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale

On March 30, prior to the OARA Convention, the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC), will be hosting a special End-of-Life Vehicle Electrification Roundtable discussion. Confirmed participants for this session at this time include:

Alberta Automotive Recyclers and Dismantlers Association; Automotive Industries Association of Canada (AIA Canada); Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA); Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC); BC Auto Recyclers; Call2Recycle; Clean Energy Canada; Collision Solutions Network (CSN); CSA Group; ELV Select/SEDA; Environment and Climate Change Canada; EVB360 inc.; General Motors of Canada; IAA; Kelleher Environmental; Lithion Recycling; Mitchell International; Plug’N Drive; Triple M Metal LP and Umicore USA

For this roundtable discussion, Kelleher Environmental has prepared a wide variety of important EV studies and reports for NGOs, private companies and governments. Additionally, Ryan Mandell, Director of Claims Performance for Mitchell International, who has been a key figure in disseminating information regarding EVs for recyclers, repairers and insurers will present, as well; Jeff Haltrecht from Call2Recycle Canada and co-author of the EV Battery Management at End-of-Vehicle Life report with the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association (CVMA). Additionally, ARC will provide a synopsis of the association’s recently published Roadmap and Implementation Plan for the Management of End-of-Life Electric Vehicles in Canada.

The OARA Convention itself will begin with an informal meet and greet—taking place at 6.00 pm on March 30th, followed by a full day of activities on March 31 and April 2.

Steve Fletcher, Managing Director of ARC and Executive Director of OARA, notes that for 2023, some notable changes have been introduced to the convention. The trade show area is the largest yet, with 10 new vendors this year, including three vendors in the EV battery reuse/recycling sector. 

Other major announcements include the first keynote address at the OARA Convention with a motivational speaker. Dr. Kimberley Amirault-Ryan, Performance Consultant to the National Hockey League, National Basketball Association and Olympians will be present on Saturday, April 1, at 1.00 pm with a session entitled Excellence: The Winner’s Traits.

Additionally, there will be sessions on a variety of key topics impacting the auto recycling sector. These include Trends in the Auto Recycling, Collision Repair and Insurance Sectors from Ryan Mandell, Director, Claims Performance, Mitchell International, as well as a presentation from the Automotive Recyclers Association in the U.S., entitled ARA Strategic Pillars: Driving Auto Recycling Forward. An additional panel discussion: The Future of Auto Recycling is also scheduled for March 31.

Sessions on April 1, in addition to the keynote address, include an update from the United Recyclers Group, a Managing Human Resources panel discussion, as well as panel sessions on Buying and Inventory and Managing Sales. Attendees to the 2023 OARA Convention will also have ample opportunity for networking, as well as participating in an on-site fundraiser for OARA Employee Scholarships, as well as entering a competition for a chance to win a complimentary trip to the URG Convention in Orlando or the ARA Convention in Kansas City.
