Automotive supplier Schaeffler has commenced series production of nitrogen oxide (NOx) sensors specifically designed for gasoline vehicles across Europe. Adapted from its established diesel emissions architecture, the technology is engineered to assist vehicle manufacturers in meeting upcoming international emissions mandates, including Euro 7 standards.

Under Euro 7 frameworks, regulatory compliance extends beyond lab testing to enforce strict emissions limits during real-world driving conditions over a vehicle’s entire operational lifespan. Schaeffler’s sensor generates dual electronic signals measuring both NOx concentration and exhaust oxygen levels (lambda parameter). This real-time feedback allows for precise exhaust after-treatment management, enabling OEMs to downsize catalytic converters, decrease precious metal usage, and eliminate secondary sensors to reduce system complexity.
