According to CarGurus’ newly released Vehicle Preferences Report, persistent inflationary pressures and elevated fuel costs are reshaping automotive purchasing priorities across Canada. The study highlights that 80% of Canadian consumers want vehicle manufacturers to focus on delivering budget-friendly options rather than introducing complex digital technology.
When asked to rank top ownership priorities for the next decade, improved fuel economy led consumer demands at 43%, followed closely by greater access to affordable models (40%) and long-term vehicle durability (39%). In contrast, extending electric vehicle driving range was cited by only 18% of survey participants.
This emphasis on overall value is creating opportunities for non-traditional brands entering the Canadian marketplace. The research indicates that 59% of Canadians—and 67% of Quebec residents—are open to purchasing a Chinese-brand vehicle if it satisfies national safety standards. Acceptance jumps to 69% among consumers aged 18 to 34, signaling shifting brand loyalty in pursuit of price competitive options.
