Kia and Variablegrid offer direct cash-back on home charging

Leveraging federal Clean Fuel Regulations, Kia introduces a home charging cash-back program delivering $0.10 per kilowatt-hour directly to electric vehicle owners through 2030.

Kia Canada has expanded its partnership with Canadian energy technology firm Variablegrid Adaptive Power through the introduction of the Variablegrid Plus program. Available through 2030, the initiative allows certified EV dealership customers to enroll in a three-year subscription to receive a $0.10 per kilowatt-hour cash-back credit on home charging consumption.

For automotive sales teams and dealership managers, the program provides a tangible incentive to drive adoption across entry and mid-segment models like the EV3, EV4, and EV5. An EV4 owner driving 20,000 km annually can recover up to $360 per year in charging credits. Additionally, bundling a subscription with Variablegrid’s Level 2 energy management system offers an immediate upfront hardware discount of up to $350.

The commercial structure leverages credit generation under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), which requires primary suppliers to lower fuel carbon intensity by incentivizing clean energy use. On the infrastructure side, Variablegrid’s dynamic load management technology monitors household electrical consumption in real time, enabling Level 2 charger installation without requiring panel or electrical service upgrades.
