2027 Toyota GR86: Refined Throttle Mapping and Enhanced Safety

Toyota Canada has announced updates for the 2027 GR86 rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. Refined by the GAZOO Racing engineering team, the 2+2 sports car receives targeted mechanical, interior, and safety enhancements designed to improve driver control and daily usability.

Engineers retuned the throttle-to-torque relationship to provide a more linear power delivery. For manual transmission models, the gear interlock chamfer between 4th and 5th gear was widened by 0.5 mm to deliver smoother downshifts and upshifts. The GR86 retains its naturally aspirated 2.4L flat-four engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Torsen limited-slip rear differential. Base manual models maintain a curb weight of 1,275 kg, utilizing aluminum body panels and structural adhesives to preserve chassis rigidity.

Safety updates include a stereoscopic camera with nearly double the detection range for the adaptive cruise control, alongside a new monocular camera to detect objects at intersections. A new exterior paint option, Storm (Tonnerre), joins the color palette alongside a new Cockpit Red interior trim featuring black Ultrasuede and red leather accents.

The 2027 Toyota GR86 arrives in Canadian dealerships with a base MSRP of $33,400. The GR86 Premium manual is priced at $36,790, while the GR86 Premium 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters starts at $38,365.
