The funding package includes up to $9 million allocated through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) to install nearly 400 new EV charging stations across Canada across nine projects.

Following up on its national automotive strategy, the Government of Canada has announced $10.9 million in federal funding across 22 zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure and awareness initiatives nationwide.

The funding package includes up to $9 million allocated through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) to install nearly 400 new EV charging stations across Canada across nine projects. An additional $2 million will fund 13 education and technical assistance projects designed to streamline charging access for commercial fleets, multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs), and grid integration.

“We’re investing in more charging stations across the country, helping Canadians travel even more easily between home, work, and play,” said the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature. “Through this announcement and our automotive strategy, we are creating good jobs, strengthening Canada’s economy, and building a prosperous, competitive, climate-smart future.”

“With today’s announcement, we are accelerating the transition toward zero-emission transportation across Canada through investments in EV infrastructure,” added the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada. “By funding charging infrastructure installations and making green transportation options more accessible, we are helping Canadians make the switch.”

A key focus of the educational funding addresses residential charging access for Canadians residing in condominiums and apartments, where charging retrofits have traditionally presented administrative and technical barriers.

“By choosing an electric vehicle, a Canadian household can save between $23,000 and $32,000 over a ten-year period,” stated Travis Allan, CEO of the Canadian EV Infrastructure Council. “For nearly one in three Canadian families living in a condominium, co-op, or apartment, those savings can be out of reach. This guide, funded by the Government of Canada, will provide condo boards, property managers, and owners with clear, practical answers.”

For commercial fleet operators, municipalities, and utility providers, the funding enables Electric Mobility Canada to establish dedicated light-duty fleet charging resource hubs in the Prairies and Maritimes, while advancing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) bidirectional charging integration.

“Electric Mobility Canada thanks the Government of Canada for its support of two practical, high-impact initiatives,” said Daniel Breton, President and CEO of Electric Mobility Canada. “The first will establish light-duty fleet charging resource hubs in the Prairies and Maritimes […]. The second will advance vehicle-to-grid integration in Canada by bringing together utilities, regulators, automakers, and policy makers around managed charging and bidirectional charging solutions that have the potential to lower costs and improve grid reliability.”

The national rollout builds on rapid charging network expansion across provinces like British Columbia, which now operates over 8,900 public charging stations—an 87% increase since 2023.
