While visiting AAPEX 2025, we had the opportunity to stop by the Dayco display and visit with Bob Rosen, National Sales Manager, Canada, and Dipesh Maniar, Marketing Programs Manager. Dayco was showcasing its proprietary first to market Timing Belt in Oil (TBIO) technology. This initial product is designed to cover more than 2 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles with turbocharged engines, including applications such as the popular 2.7-litre and 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engines found in vehicles such as the F-150.
Bob Rosen explained that the new belt in oil system will initially be released for the North American market with three-part numbers, though more are in production.
Invented by Dayco as a solution for OEMs, a growing number of vehicles equipped with this timing belt in oil technology are now hitting their service intervals and this noted, Rosen creates a massive opportunity for the automotive aftermarket.
Unlike traditional dry timing belts, a timing belt in oil operates submerged in motor oil on the “wet” side of the engine. The result of rigorous OE-level design that combines the best of both timing belt and chain performance inside the engine, Dayco’s hybrid approach has enabled OEMs to transform the way in which engines are built. TBIO technology has provided automakers with the flexibility to downsize, reduce vehicle weight, and improve noise, vibration, and harshness characteristics—all while delivering lasting durability.
Like its OE counterpart, Dayco’s new aftermarket timing belt in oil system has been designed to offer exceptional strength, stiffness and wear resistance—even under the most grueling road conditions. With proven reliability and matched OE tolerances, this new timing belt in oil innovation is designed for accurate timing, minimal elongation and optimal fuel efficiency, delivering a quieter, smoother and more responsive ride for modern vehicles.
With advanced engines becoming more common, timing belt in oil systems are expected to grow in popularity, hence the opportunity for aftermarket service centres to capitalize on this opportunity. Rosen explained that a key to that opportunity is education, since consumers aren’t likely aware that their vehicle has a timing belt in oil. Additionally, Dayco continues to focus its efforts on delivering a total system repair, through products such as its complete timing belt, chain and water pump kits, ensuring that the service centre does the job right the first time, and that the consumer experiences optimal reliability once the work is done.
