These awards recognize peak-performing fleets that have made a positive impact on the environment.

Whether it’s enhanced operational practices or ground-breaking and inventive programs, these awards (now in their 15th year) celebrate achievement for making a difference in reducing the environmental impact on fleet business operations.

The Green Fleet Awards are free to enter and are open to both commercial and government fleets in both Canada and the U.S. Submissions will continue to be accepted through July 15 with the winners being announced in August.

Government fleets consist of all federal, provincial, state, and local/municipal government fleets, including fleets that are operated by local government personnel or contracted services. The Green Fleet Award is a comprehensive set of criteria specifically tailored around the challenges and requirements of fleet professionals.

Some of these criteria include:

  • How much petroleum have you deferred, or CO₂ and tail pipe emissions have you saved?
  • What are the other environmental benefits of your project?
  • What have you done to communicate your efforts to your constituents?
  • How has technology improved your projects and what are you looking at for the future?
  • What policies or procedures have been implemented (and enforced) to reduce vehicle usage and fuel consumption?
  • Does your agency have an active outreach program to inform other departments or the public of your initiatives?
  • Do you have an established driver training program that instructs and promotes green driving techniques?
  • Has your organization developed “green procurement” initiatives in its bidding, procurement, or contractor solicitation?
  • Is there an ongoing process in place to research new federal and state grant opportunities for green fleet initiatives?
