Cooper Tire has recently announced the addition of its new mixed service wide base all-position (WBA) tire to its SEVERE Series lineup.

The Cooper SEVERE Series WBA has been developed for providing long miles to removal when handling harsh operating conditions. The tire is specifically designed for construction truck applications, especially mixers and dump trucks. The new tire is currently being offered in 385/65R22.5 and 425/65R22.5 sizes, in load range L.

The company is constantly working to broaden its signature line of truck and bus radial (TBR) tires, according to Gary Schroeder, Executive Director of Cooper’s Global Truck and Bus Tire Business. “Our Cooper SEVERE Series tire line, which now also includes the WBA, provides exceptional performance while giving our customers a low cost of ownership proposition,” he said. “The WBA is a premium tire engineered to give those running mixers and dump trucks a tire with the power to outperform others at its price point,” he says.

Besides a unique zigzag rib in the centre, the Cooper SEVERE Series WBA has a five-rib design with 23/32nds of tread. The company has engineered this ‘unique-looking’ tire to deliver better traction and cornering when used in slippery construction site conditions.

The tire is equipped with Cooper’s Scrub Guard technology as well as special cut, chip and chunk resistant compounds. Together, they protect the tire against scrubbing, curbs, and other obstacles that are typically encountered during operations, ensuring a longer tire life as well as maintaining casing integrity. “Since many of our customers run 80 to 90 percent on-road, with the other duty cycles off-road in quarries and on gravel roads, the tire must give optimal performance in both driving conditions,” explains Schroeder. “And it does. We balance tire life—long miles to removal—with a durable tire that holds up against the toughest of conditions.”

To reduce and hinder the penetration of sharp rocks and stones and, the tire contains stone ejector ledges as well and notched circumferential ribs. Additionally, it’s a dual “shelf” in its grooved walls help with the tire’s tread stability. They minimize squirm when cornering and provide extra stone protection. The tire’s tie bars stabilize its centre rib, improving driving performance. It features a five-inch steel band reinforcement in the lower sidewall which provides reinforcement and casing durability to the tire. Additionally, to ensure multiple retreads, it features a strong four-belt casing design. Cooper Tire offers coverage for the tire with its seven-year, two-retread warranty.
