SMP Forms Joint Venture in Thailand to Accelerate Sensor Manufacturing

The joint venture scales SMP’s manufacturing capacity across critical engine management sensor categories.
Executing a definitive supply chain diversification strategy targeting the North American automotive aftermarket, Standard Motor Products(SMP ) has finalized a 50/50 joint venture agreement with Techstrong Holdings Limited. The corporate partnership establishes Techstrong Electronics (Thailand) Company Limited (“SMP Techstrong”) as a dedicated automotive sensor manufacturing hub.
The joint venture scales SMP’s manufacturing capacity across critical engine management sensor categories. By securing an equity stake in this operational facility, SMP assumes direct vertical integration over localized product development, quality assurance protocols, and manufacturing delivery timelines, reinforcing its position as a basic manufacturer in core electronics categories.
For Canadian automotive parts distributors, major jobber store networks, and diagnostic technicians relying on standard brand portfolios like Standard and Blue Streak, this manufacturing shift brings long-term inventory security. The strategic pivot to Thailand explicitly addresses global supply chain vulnerabilities by actively reducing manufacturing reliance on China, helping to insulate North American jobber counters from regional tariff fluctuations and component backorders.
“This joint venture represents an important step forward in our commitment to our customers,” stated Hap Acee, Vice President of Asian Operations for SMP. “By investing in manufacturing and deepening our partnership with Techstrong, we are strengthening our ability to deliver the quality, coverage, and value that our customers expect from SMP.”
The infrastructure investment enhances supply chain resilience, guaranteeing consistent category fulfillment for high-turn sensor lines heading into the second half of the year.
