April 29th saw another exciting Slapshots for a Cause event with the Salvation Army on the receiving end of a nice contribution to their great organization. This was Slapshots 35 th event for a charitable cause… many accolades go out to the board members!
Four teams faced off against each other with the Red Team coming away as the eventual winner! In all, there were 42 players. Everyone had a good time, and it was so nice to see that many of the fathers participating had their sons and daughters (one son was a goalie) on the ice with them and they got the same amount of ice time as their parents. And boy, could they skate well—backwards and forwards plus pass and score! It was so great to watch. More of you in the Aftermarket need to get involved and bring your kids or another colleague with you!
After a little time off for food, a presentation was made by Mark Potts and Matt Koval backed by the Board of Slapshots for a Cause to the Salvation Army who had been invited to come to the event in person. Melody Watson, Executive Director at The Salvation Army Peel Shelters and Housing Services was on hand to receive $10,000.00 for their organization which they very happily accepted. As a little bit of background, the Slapshots board rigorously do their homework about the organization they choose to receive their donation.
It’s time for more people to join in and make this event a highlight for the year—only people working in the Aftermarket are invited to participate… so indeed it is a true Aftermarket event! Put it on your calendar for next year… get out and have some fun while helping a good cause.
Slapshots has a website—slapshotsforacause.ca. Keep watching it for any updates and get ready for next year! Save the date—let’s see you at the 36 th Slapshots game!
