The 34th Annual Slap Shots for a Cause Aftermarket Teams Tournament has done it again… and made winners of all the participants… especially those on the Red Team! They came out as the tournament winners and claimed the Lube Koval Trophy for 2025!!
This yearly event—founded in 1990—is an important one in the hearts of many aftermarket hockey players… and their families! The late Mark Hay’s daughter Claire (who has played for several years) and son Eddie were participating and having a fun time. Brad Shaddick had his daughter and granddaughter on the ice with him—three generations! They all performed well.
But all the players were there for a very important reason… a salute to one of their ardent teammates and dear friend who passed away very suddenly this year—Mark Hay. He had played in the tournament for many years and at this event, his family also learned of his impact on the aftermarket industry—how well-liked and respected he was.
Slap Shots for a Cause is a charity event, and this year was certainly no exception. The support they raised this year was $11,500, and a cheque in that amount was presented to the Hay family with their very best wishes and deep regards. Mom Kendra, Claire and Eddie were very moved by this and expressed their earnest thanks to the Slap Shots for a Cause participants and donors. They were also given an enlarged photo of Mark that had been signed with personal remarks from all those in attendance.
This turned out to be Slap Shots for a Cause’s most successful event yet with over forty skaters participating. Well done, everyone!
