In a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by staff and guests from all levels of government, Volkswagen Group Canada Inc. (VGCA) announced formal completion of the initial phase of their head office expansion. The construction has added over 115,000 square feet of warehouse space to the existing facility and will include secure storage for high-voltage batteries. Sixteen new loading docks are part of the project, as are 124 additional parking spaces. The project was completed in less than a year, well ahead of the original schedule.
“This expansion is an example of our dedication to our Canadian customers, our dealers and our employees,” stated Edgar Estrada, CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada Inc. “We are delighted to be able to say we are on an upward trajectory and have serious growth plans in place.”
“Our government is thrilled to see the completion of Volkswagen Group Canada’s first phase of expansion in Ajax, building on the company’s more than 70-year presence in Ontario,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “From expanded battery storage capabilities to new training centres, this investment will further strengthen Ontario’s leadership in the auto sector and unlock new opportunities for our world-class workers.”
The project is the first part of a three-phase expansion, which will include further enhancements to the warehouse operations, along with the addition of three training cells, a new technical service centre and an open collaboration area. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
