David Adams Retiring as President of GAC

Adams has been a familiar face across the Canadian OEM landscape for many years representing the interests of non-domestic automakers in the marketplace. Noted for his pragmatic approach and an eye for always staying on top of industry trends and focus on collaboration, Adams will be sorely missed. I personally have had the pleasure of interviewing him over the years, including for articles in this very magazine.

In a recent quote on LinkedIn, Adams said “I have been both privileged and honoured to have been able to lead the [Global Automakers of Canada] for the past 20 years during which time we grew from about 20% of vehicle sales to more than 62% of sales in the Canadian marketplace while manufacturing members—Toyota and Honda, have grown from about 35% of production to 75% of Canada’s light duty vehicle production. It has been quite the ride in an industry that has been undergoing more fundamental change and transition over past two or three years than has occurred at any other time in the industry’s history. As the industry evolves and changes it is imperative that trade associations that serve the industry evolve and change as well. My successor will undoubtedly bring some of that evolution and innovation to the table.”
