Cadillac Optiq Credit: Cadillac

GM Canada is on a roll as it enters the second half of 2025. Building on momentum from the first quarter of the year, GM Canada recorded a strong Q2 and industry-leading market share for the first half of 2025. Part of that success is attributable to Cadillac, with sales up 7.5 percent in Q2 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, making for Cadillac’s all-time best quarter in Canada.

7.5 percent might not sound like a huge increase, but it built on Q1 2025 results to make a 29 percent spike in sales for the first half of 2025. Part of this is thanks to Cadillac’s continued EV rollout. GM EVs saw a 38 percent sales increase in Q2 2025, and GM attributes some of that success to the Cadillac Optiq, the brand’s bestseller in Canada for the quarter.

However, Cadillac Lyriq sales were notably down 11.6 percent year-over-year, partially because Canada’s federal EV credit was eliminated earlier this year. Also, sales were down in Canada for all three of Cadillac’s ICE-powered crossovers: the XT4, XT5, and XT6. XT4 sales are understandably down because it was discontinued, and its big brothers are getting long in the tooth compared to more modern rivals.

Cadillac’s success in Canada in the first half of the year coincides with a significant decline in Tesla sales in the North American country. Tesla is tanking in Canada for a few reasons, namely the suspension of both federal and provincial EV rebates, higher prices driven by tariffs and trade tensions (Canadian-market Teslas are made in the U.S., while the Optiq is made in Mexico), and reputational damage caused by the political activities of Elon Musk, which have been unpopular with Canadian Tesla owners looking to switch brands. These factors aligned to make Canada a favourable market for Cadillac EVs.

“More Canadians chose GM models than any other automaker through the first half of 2025,” GM Canada Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing Shane Peever said. “As the market evolves, we remain focused on offering Canadian drivers’ choice through the most diverse portfolio in the industry that ranges from dependable gas-powered vehicles to 13 electric options across Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC.”
