Through this program, Ontario drivers qualify for $1,000 toward the purchase of a used fully electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
Since the program launched in April 2019, it has issued over 500 incentives and continues to attract public interest despite the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is delivered by Plug’n Drive in collaboration with Clean Air Partnership and made possible thanks to the support of the M. H. Brigham Foundation.
To qualify for the incentive, drivers must:
- Attend an educational webinar on the environmental and economic benefits of electric transportation
- Purchase a used fully electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with a re-sale sticker price below $50,000
“We are very excited to be continuing to support the delivery of this program,” said Gabriella Kalapos, Executive Director, Clean Air Partnership. “The burning of fossil fuels is a significant source of smog and air pollution and EVs are one path toward cleaner air and healthier communities.”
An extension to the program, called the Scrappage Incentive, was added in February 2020, granting drivers an additional $1,000 if they also scrap their old gas car. The Automotive Recyclers of Canada are ensuring these vehicles are responsibly scrapped.
“The Used EV and Scrappage incentive programs achieve the dual-aim of increasing public awareness and adoption of EVs while taking the most polluting gas cars off the road,” said Cara Clairman, President and CEO of Plug’n Drive.
“We are looking forward to continuing these programs, working with Clean Air Partnership and the M. H. Brigham Foundation, to strengthen Ontario’s used EV marketplace and to make EVs available to everyone,” said Clairman.
