Quebecker Sylvain Dubois has returned home after representing Canada at the Best of Belron competition, held in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 24 and 25. As national champion, he competed against the top automotive glass technicians from 30 countries during the 13th edition of this global event. Best of Belron brings together members of a network of more than 15,000 technicians within Belron. Sylvain delivered a solid performance in events showcasing windshield repair and replacement, side window replacement, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) camera recalibration. His participation highlights his expertise and the quality of his workmanship on the international stage.
From Repentigny to the Banks of the Tagus
Sylvain Dubois, a technician and mentor at Lebeau Vitres d’autos® in Repentigny, represented Canada as national champion, succeeding David Chester, the Canadian representative in 2024. Sylvain stated, “Participating in this competition represents the culmination of years of dedication and passion. This experience was made possible thanks to the unwavering support of my colleagues and peers. It was a privilege to represent Canada on the international stage.”
The Best of Belron Competition
Created in 2002 and held every two years, the competition brings together the top automotive glass technicians from the Belron network. To qualify for the global event, each participant must first win their country’s national title through regional and national trials. Backed by more than 37 years of experience, Sylvain Dubois stood out among more than 500 Belron Canada technicians. After winning the Quebec provincial final in the fall of 2025, followed by the national final, he was chosen to represent Canada at the 2026 edition.
During the world competition, each of the four procedures is evaluated using a scorecard that can include up to 95 steps. The overall evaluation totals over 5,000 points. Judges measure factors such as workmanship quality, customer service experience, adherence to health and safety protocols, and speed of execution.
Excellence in Service of Vehicle Safety
Windshield repair and replacement require high technical precision and constant attention to safety. They also rely on continuous training. Thanks to his experience, Sylvain Dubois highlights that mastering advanced techniques, including ADAS camera recalibration, has become essential to ensuring high-quality work and standing out at the highest level.
Sylvain explains it this way, “As motorists, we often take our windshields for granted and sometimes tolerate chips or cracks without fully realizing the consequences for our safety. It is crucial to entrust windshield repair or replacement to professionals and to ensure that forward-facing ADAS cameras are correctly recalibrated. Today, this recalibration is an essential step in any windshield replacement. Mastering this advanced skill was one of the deciding factors in my performance during the competition.”
