The transaction grants Carlyle dominant operational control over the newly structured organization.

Altering the global manufacturing framework for the automotive refinish sector, BASF SE and private equity titan The Carlyle Group have officially finalized their massive coatings transaction as of June 30, 2026. The enterprise deal, valued at €7.7 billion, spins off the historical BASF Coatings division into a standalone corporate entity operating under the new brand name, Surventis.

The transaction grants Carlyle dominant operational control over the newly structured organization. Surventis now commands all global automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coatings, specialized surface treatments, and high-margin automotive refinish coatings. To preserve supply chain stability and capitalize on future growth metrics, BASF has retained a definitive 40% equity stake in the independent venture.

Industry Continuity for Canadian Multi-Shop Operators (MSOs)

For Canadian collision repair administrators, single-shop operators, and automotive jobber networks, this structural split represents the most significant chemical channel realignment in recent years. Flagship automotive paint systems heavily integrated into Canadian repair facilities—such as Glasurit (including the waterborne 100 Line) and R-M (including Onyx HD software and tints)—are now intellectual properties of Surventis.

“This successful closing marks a key milestone in the execution of our strategy aimed at unlocking the value of our standalone businesses,” stated Dr. Markus Kamieth, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.

For collision repair professionals across Canadian provinces, baseline commercial field support, formulation codes, and distribution rights are protected under transition guidelines. While day-to-day shop inventory management remains stable, the creation of Surventis establishes an aggressive, well-capitalized competitor focused solely on pushing technology layers and cycle-time efficiencies within the global refinish market.
