Since Ron Olsson founded Pro Spot International in 1986, the company has sought to create innovative solutions for collision repair shops, helping improve repair accuracy, speed and ROI.

At the 2023 SEMA Show, Autosphere had the chance to speak with Russell Duncan, Director of Sales & Marketing, Canada, for Pro Spot. Duncan gave us insight into Pro Spot’s newest smart spot welder, the i5s.

A next-generation design, the i5s Smart, Spot Welding System features state-of-the-art adaptive auto welding technology, as well as built-in WiFi and robust online training resources accessed directly through the welder itself. The advanced welding control system can actively react and adjust welding energy and resistance based on material composition, resulting in an algorithm that’s able to continually tweak and modify gun performance to ensure an optimal weld, no matter the surface it’s being used upon.

“There’s no guessing anymore,” explained Duncan. “It’s very important that we follow OEM specifications so we can accurately duplicate the weld the vehicle had from the factory.” Additionally, the i5s pulls data directly from the vehicle manufacturer to the welder itself, ensuring the algorithm is consistently accurate and able to perform the weld as required. The i5s also comes with a range of different arms and fitments to ensure maximum flexibility and versatility.
