In January 2020, Color Compass Corporation and the Wesco Group came together in Phoenix, Arizona for their inaugural International Conference.

Since Color Compass merged with the Wesco Group in October 2018, this was the first time that a joint conference was held. Color Compass, on previous occasions, has hosted similar kinds of meetings on a smaller scale every year.

The company notes that the origin of these types of meetings originated over twenty-five years ago. At that time, only PBE Distributors sales meetings were held in London, Ontario. During these meetings, a small number of the PBE sales staff met up with several vendors and manufacturers.

In contrast, more than 100 members of staff from the Wesco Group and Color Compass attended the International Conference in Phoenix. The conference provided a platform for industry stakeholders to come together, interact with major vendors and hold conversations regarding the challenges and opportunities for the collision repair industry in, regionally as well as on either side of the border. The original vision of the meetings from the earlier days remained the same.

Conducted over a duration of four days, a major highlight of the event was a vendor ‘rodeo’ tradeshow. The rodeo event was conducted in a similar fashion to a round of speed-dating. The Wesco and Color Compass teams formed small groups consisting of 30 members. Each of them was given an opportunity to interact one-on-one for 15 minutes with the 30 vendors attending the event. In case they saw further potential and were able to connect well, there was additional time provided to follow-up on the conversation later during the week.

The group plans to hold the larger-scale conference in the future as well, given the positive response and success of the Phoenix event.
