The New Brunswick Provincial Skills Competitions took place in late April, 2018, with students from across the province participating in over 30 different skilled trades.

Categories in this year’s event included 30 different skilled trades and technologies contests–spanning everything from Robotics and Cabinetmaking to Hairstyling and Cooking.

The New Brunswick gold medalist in the provincial Autobody Repair competition was Marc-Andre Benoit, and the gold medalist in the provincial Car Painting competition was Carrie Long.

In the Autobody Repair competition, students were evaluated on their knowledge and skills in car and light truck systems, including precision measuring, drivability and parts identification.

In the Car Painting competition, students were required to paint a panel, repair a scratch on a panel, and prepare the panel for spot paint and clear coat.

Gold medalists from the provincial competitions had the opportunity to represent their provinces at the Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton, Alberta, in June.
