At SEMA 2026, Astemo Americas launched SHOWA Performance, marking its four-wheel market debut after 60 years in motorcycle racing.
Showa’s expansion into light truck and SUV shock absorbers opens lucrative suspension upfitting revenue streams for Canadian specialty mechanical and restyling shops.
Astemo Americas introduced its SHOWA Performance product line at the 2026 SEMA Show, adapting six decades of two-wheel motorsport damping engineering to four-wheel off-road applications. Slated for commercial delivery in early 2027, the US-manufactured lineup encompasses ORC 2.0 steel-body monotubes, PSD 2.25 position-sensitive damping shocks, and competition-oriented SPIRE 2.5-inch aluminum rebuildable coilovers.
For Canadian automotive restyling facilities, commercial fleet upfitters, and independent mechanical repair owners, high-performance damper packages represent significant gross profit opportunities on lifted pickups and sport utilities. Units feature protective Cerakote coatings alongside proprietary Hydraulic Compression Stop and Rebound Stop mechanisms, providing essential durability against corrosion and severe bottoming impacts encountered in Canadian backcountry operating conditions.
According to Showa Performance General Manager Nathan Beskow, the suspension range transfers race-proven damping valving to popular light-truck platforms requiring heightened wheel control. Service centres can leverage these manual-adjustability remote-reservoir units to capture high-margin installation and custom tuning labour, bolstering specialty aftermarket billings as consumer enthusiasm for vehicle overland capability grows.
