International audience gathers in Niagara Falls for the 2016 Rubber Recycling Symposium.
Tire executives from as far away as Sweden, and parts of Asia, attended TRAC’s (Tire and Rubber Association of Canada) symposium this year. The theme, “Driving Toward the Circular Economy,” focused on environmental awareness and sustainability.
Much of day two of the three-day event, which took place from Oct 5-7, was dedicated to the demise of the Ontario Tire Stewardship program. Despite the success of the OTS, recent legislation will see the organization disbanded in the near future.
The big question on everyone’s mind is, “What will replace it?” Although many panelists struggled to provide and answer, the bottom line is that we just don’t know. All we know at present is that OTS is winding down operations, and a new “Authority” will replace it in the future. And while a framework is in place, details, at this point, are still very sketchy.
